Spring | Summer 2010 is an exciting time to be styling hair. Sometimes hair isn't a big story on the catwalks, but this season it's the main attraction. We think it's because, in these economically challenging times, getting creative with your hair is a relatively inexpensive way of dramatically altering your look. From futuristic geometry to grown-up beach babe hair, texture, ghetto fabulous crimping and updos of all shapes and sizes, there is a great opportunity to have fun and experiment with hair this season. And as you'll see from our key looks, the possibilities are endless. Mix and match your hair to your mood as much as your outfit and most of all, style your hair with your imagination. Get Vitality and volume with the Philips 2100W ProVolume hairdryer with volume diffuser

Finding the perfect dryer is the real key to trying out this look yourself. Look for a hairdryer that will maintain the health and vitality of the hair and protect it from over drying and excessive heat damage. Adjust the heat setting to suit your hair type. If you have fine, dry or coloured hair, use a lower setting and always keep the airflow moving. If you blowdry your hair more than once a week then it is a good idea to use a conditioning mask regularly to replace lost moisture and keep your hair looking and feeling healthy. An incredibly feminine way of wearing hair long and loose, this look became known as ‘Easy Glamour’ at Paris Fashion Week and is popular with celebrities including SJP and rising starlet, Amanda Seyfried. For this style, hair is kept romantically undone with rough partings and soft, flexible tumbling natural waves.

Get the Look:

During the daytime, opt for a 1970s style loose centre parting with waves through the lower sections. For the evening, lose the parting and sweep hair back or to the side so that the waves cascade softly through the full length of the hair.

1. Add mousse to freshly washed hair. Make a centre parting, and then roughly blow-dry all the hair until its 70-80% dry

2. Clip up the top half of the hair out of the way so you can continue blow-drying with a medium size round brush underneath. Wrap a section of the hair around the brush and apply the airflow while half rolling and unrolling hair around the brush. This technique adds a wave to hair without stretching it. When the section is dry, roll it once more fully onto the brush. Allow the hair to cool before releasing it.

3. Repeat this technique all over the hair underneath, then release the top half of the hair and continue until all the hair is dry.

4. Loosen the waves with your fingers and then blow-dry on a cool setting.

For a style with lots of movement and volume, use the diffuser attachment. Tilt your head and cup your hair into it, lifting up the hair to create volume at the root.

Understand:

This look works well on all types of mid to long length hair and can help to create movement and body even in fine, slightly damaged hair.

Care:

Adjust the heat setting to suit your hair type. If you have fine, dry or coloured hair, use a lower setting and always keep the airflow moving. If you blowdry your hair more than once a week then it is a good idea to use a conditioning mask regularly to replace lost moisture and keep your hair looking and feeling healthy.

Create:

This look is all about maximizing movement so don’t use too many products. A fist-sized amount of mousse is all you will need if your hair is fine. Mousse is great since it gives body and creates hold without stickiness and works best when used in conjunction with a hair dryer.
